LIGHT POLLUTIONLight has made a big impact to the environment. What many people don't know is that light pollutes the earth too. The atmosphere acts as a deflector, making the light not only go up but "bounce back" to earth like a reflection. Illumination on earth grows 2.2% each year. There have been studies made that an airport can be 30 times more illuminate than a suburban city in the US.

BURNING IN CALIFORNIA

As of last week, many counties in Napa and the Bay area have been severely affected by one of the biggest wild fires in Californian history. Many neighborhoods, vineyards and people have been lost in the strong flames of the fires. The air quality has reached severe, equalizing to the severity of the polluted air in Beijing, where the air quality is said to be one of the worsts in the world. As of Tuesday of this week, there has been said an estimated 115,000 acres burned in Northern California. This is not including the fires occurring in Southern California. Governor Jerry Brown has announced a state of emergency for areas affected by the fire.
Wildfires can either occur from dryness or from people. Whether if caused by a person or naturally, it is important to be cautious when outdoors. The air quality can be dangerous for everyone to the point of causing asthma or even cancer. Even if not near a fire, gusts and winds can move the polluted air into good condition areas. Earlier this month, local restaurant in Oakland, Scott's Seafood Restaurant, was fined a whopping 841,000 dollars. The reason for the fine is due to their shoreline deck, being an environmental hazard. The shoreline is said to be too close and exceed the maximum capacity of people, which is a state environmental violation. The shoreline has been an ongoing problem the past. The shoreline is also said to be harmful due to the waste created and later to affect the waters and fish. The fine has been reduced to 395.000 dollars.
Along the California coast, there are hundreds of restaurants along the coast. Many of these restaurants create waste from either the food or customers not correctly disposing of trash. This eventually affects the wildlife in the water and making the water unsanitary. Trash left in the water eventually moves with the waves and dispersing it even more throughout the ocean. |
