http://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Plastic-straws-stir-up-environmental-debate-in-11192651.php
This year alone, millions of plastics straws have been used and are not discarded correctly. In Berkeley, they are looking to ban plastics due to the growing amount that is making its way to the ocean. The straw and the coffee stirrers are the 6th most common littler found among the beaches. On an average, plastic straws make up nearly 1 million pounds of litter. Berkeley is looking to have straws completely banned by 2018.
The smallest of things, like plastic straws, are affecting the coasts with litter. Not only does it affect the water, but marine wildlife as well. Eventually, that littler in the water will end up hurting or killing the animals in the water. As for people, it will make it unsafe to enjoy the beach, go surfing and swimming.

http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-pol-ca-xavier-becerra-trump-wall-lawsuit-20170920-story.html
On september 20th, 2017, the state of California filed a lawsuit against the president of the United States, Donald Trump. The lawsuit states that by building the wall, it would affect the area environmentally. It also stated that the wall plans failed to comply with the states environmental laws. The wall is said to have very undecided and not well planned prototypes, affecting the area environmentally.
The president and his staff have not planned out their wall well. The wall is seen more of a rational decision that has not been entirely thought out properly. Although it may be just a wall, it is failing to comply with a US state environmental regulations. President Trump also thinks climate change isn't real, which may be also a reason why he didn't think a wall could affect a dry dessert. http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/05/health/pollution-child-deaths-who/index.html Every year, pollution does not only affect many, but kills many. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 1.5 children are killed because of air pollution. The bad air is affecting the developing organs inside a child's body. Infants are at a much higher risks than toddlers and small children. An estimated 44% of the world's asthma is caused by air pollution. Not only are children affected by this, but unborn babies can be affected. The mother breathes in the bad air, causing it to go to the unborn child and which that leads to having poor lungs at birth or possibly a miscarriage.
What many people don't realize is that day by day, the air is getting worse and worse. The air is especially bad in cities, where space is limited and there is a lot of construction and bad gases expanding.Pollution has gotten to the point where it causes deaths of children and possibly adults as well. In order to solve the problem, many should find ways of not affecting the air and environment around us.

Over the past few weeks, many states like Oregon and California have been experiencing brutal and severe wildfires. 16 miles out of Portland, the wildfires have caused many to evacuate the area. This past week, the air quality in Portland was detected as hazardous on the air quality scale, making it extremely dangerous for a person to step out. In Northern California, the wildfires have burned nearly 14 square miles, evacuating nearly 80 homes and making thousands evacuate. This is not including the wildfire occurring in Southern California near Los Angeles, where it has said to be the closest wildfire near city limits.
Wildfires can easily be caused, In many state parks, items like fireworks are prohibited because of the damage they can do, like wildfires. Cigarrettes and campfires that are not properly put out are also common causes to wildfires. A small fire can lead to something much more immense to the point where it burns down dozens of acres and putting people's homes and health at risk. |
