LIGHT POLLUTIONLight has made a big impact to the environment. What many people don't know is that light pollutes the earth too. The atmosphere acts as a deflector, making the light not only go up but "bounce back" to earth like a reflection. Illumination on earth grows 2.2% each year. There have been studies made that an airport can be 30 times more illuminate than a suburban city in the US.

BURNING IN CALIFORNIA
https://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2017/10/12/california-wildfires-record-week-death-and-destruction/758271001/
As of last week, many counties in Napa and the Bay area have been severely affected by one of the biggest wild fires in Californian history. Many neighborhoods, vineyards and people have been lost in the strong flames of the fires. The air quality has reached severe, equalizing to the severity of the polluted air in Beijing, where the air quality is said to be one of the worsts in the world. As of Tuesday of this week, there has been said an estimated 115,000 acres burned in Northern California. This is not including the fires occurring in Southern California. Governor Jerry Brown has announced a state of emergency for areas affected by the fire.
Wildfires can either occur from dryness or from people. Whether if caused by a person or naturally, it is important to be cautious when outdoors. The air quality can be dangerous for everyone to the point of causing asthma or even cancer. Even if not near a fire, gusts and winds can move the polluted air into good condition areas. Oakland restaurant fined for...

Earlier this month, local restaurant in Oakland, Scott's Seafood Restaurant, was fined a whopping 841,000 dollars. The reason for the fine is due to their shoreline deck, being an environmental hazard. The shoreline is said to be too close and exceed the maximum capacity of people, which is a state environmental violation. The shoreline has been an ongoing problem the past. The shoreline is also said to be harmful due to the waste created and later to affect the waters and fish. The fine has been reduced to 395.000 dollars.
Along the California coast, there are hundreds of restaurants along the coast. Many of these restaurants create waste from either the food or customers not correctly disposing of trash. This eventually affects the wildlife in the water and making the water unsanitary. Trash left in the water eventually moves with the waves and dispersing it even more throughout the ocean. PLastic straws cause controversy in berkeley

This year alone, millions of plastics straws have been used and are not discarded correctly. In Berkeley, they are looking to ban plastics due to the growing amount that is making its way to the ocean. The straw and the coffee stirrers are the 6th most common littler found among the beaches. On an average, plastic straws make up nearly 1 million pounds of litter. Berkeley is looking to have straws completely banned by 2018.
The smallest of things, like plastic straws, are affecting the coasts with litter. Not only does it affect the water, but marine wildlife as well. Eventually, that littler in the water will end up hurting or killing the animals in the water. As for people, it will make it unsafe to enjoy the beach, go surfing and swimming. California files lawsuit against the potus ON Wall

On september 20th, 2017, the state of California filed a lawsuit against the president of the United States, Donald Trump. The lawsuit states that by building the wall, it would affect the area environmentally. It also stated that the wall plans failed to comply with the states environmental laws. The wall is said to have very undecided and not well planned prototypes, affecting the area environmentally.
The president and his staff have not planned out their wall well. The wall is seen more of a rational decision that has not been entirely thought out properly. Although it may be just a wall, it is failing to comply with a US state environmental regulations. President Trump also thinks climate change isn't real, which may be also a reason why he didn't think a wall could affect a dry dessert. http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/05/health/pollution-child-deaths-who/index.html Every year, pollution does not only affect many, but kills many. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 1.5 children are killed because of air pollution. The bad air is affecting the developing organs inside a child's body. Infants are at a much higher risks than toddlers and small children. An estimated 44% of the world's asthma is caused by air pollution. Not only are children affected by this, but unborn babies can be affected. The mother breathes in the bad air, causing it to go to the unborn child and which that leads to having poor lungs at birth or possibly a miscarriage.
What many people don't realize is that day by day, the air is getting worse and worse. The air is especially bad in cities, where space is limited and there is a lot of construction and bad gases expanding.Pollution has gotten to the point where it causes deaths of children and possibly adults as well. In order to solve the problem, many should find ways of not affecting the air and environment around us.

Over the past few weeks, many states like Oregon and California have been experiencing brutal and severe wildfires. 16 miles out of Portland, the wildfires have caused many to evacuate the area. This past week, the air quality in Portland was detected as hazardous on the air quality scale, making it extremely dangerous for a person to step out. In Northern California, the wildfires have burned nearly 14 square miles, evacuating nearly 80 homes and making thousands evacuate. This is not including the wildfire occurring in Southern California near Los Angeles, where it has said to be the closest wildfire near city limits.
Wildfires can easily be caused, In many state parks, items like fireworks are prohibited because of the damage they can do, like wildfires. Cigarrettes and campfires that are not properly put out are also common causes to wildfires. A small fire can lead to something much more immense to the point where it burns down dozens of acres and putting people's homes and health at risk.

As of November 14, 2016, Apple announced it's conservation fund advance forest protection efforts. The Conservation Fund ( www.conservationfund.org ) has given nearly 33,000 acres of land for forest conservation in the US. Apple is looking to reduce usage of paper and creating more ways to use it correctly and efficiently. Not only is it looking to protect forests across the US, but protect wildlife like fish and conserve the plants around. Apple is now currently expanding to China, where air pollution is at its worst in years, hoping to ease the pollution with more forests in the country.
Now in 2017, air pollution and scarce areas for trees are becoming more common around the world. Trees are a scarcity that can eventually run out, leaving the earth without fresh and breathable air in the future. Dozing forests and cutting more trees need to become less frequent in order to keep human life "going". Reducing the usage of paper, whether it be at home or in a classroom could greatly benefit the earth and your own life. Most importantly, recycling paper and other products correctly is one small act that can make an immense difference. |
